Exporting your data from Square
ROME is POS-agnostic: it normalizes any POS export into the same intelligence model, and your Square mapping is built during onboarding. This is general guidance for Square (Block, Inc.) — what to pull and where to look. Every Square version and plan differs, so we keep this honest: no invented step-by-steps.
What to export
- Item-level sales — Checks/orders with their line items — date & time, item name, quantity, price, and line total. Check-level fields like guest count and subtotal help too.
- Menu & costs — Your menu items with prices, and plate/food costs if you track them — costs unlock the margin math.
- Labor / timecards — Shifts or punches — date, role, clock in/out, hours, wage, and labor cost.
Date range: 120+ days is ideal (it captures weekday patterns and seasonality); 90 days works; even 30 days produces a useful first read.
Where to look
Export features typically live in Square’s reporting / back-office web dashboard rather than on the register itself — look for the sales, items/product-mix, and labor (or team/timecard) reports, each of which usually offers a CSV download for a chosen date range. Square Dashboard offers CSV exports for transactions, items, and team/labor reports; availability varies by Square plan.
